Foam Types

Closed-Cell Foam Insulation

Closed-cell foam is an all-in-one insulation and air sealing system. Closed-cell foam insulation is designed to solve your extreme insulation requirements. It’s ideal for whole-house applications and is supported by Building Science professionals.

What Is It?

Two-pound foam, also known as closed-cell foam, has a density of about 2 lb. per cubic foot and an R-value of approximately 6.5 per inch. Closed-cell foam is a vapor barrier at about 1.0-1.5 inches and has a permeance of .8 perm.

Open-Cell Foam Insulation

Open-cell foam insulation performs like no other insulation. It provides an effective air seal which reduces energy loss and improves indoor air quality. It also adds to your home’s resale value and the difference it makes on your comfort is top-notch.

What Is It?

Half-pound foam, also known as open-cell foam, has a density of about 0.5 lb. per cubic foot and an R-value of 3.8 per inch. Open-cell foam is relatively vapor-permeable. Three inches of open-cell foam have a permeance of 16 perms. Compared with closed-cell polyurethane, open-cell products use significantly less material, making them attractive from a resource-use standpoint.
